The community of Vista Las Palmas was established in the 1950’s and was instantly popular due to its location west of what today is known as Old Las Palmas. This classic neighborhood attracted celebrities who were looking for a desert retreat in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Vista Las Palmas was once the destination of starts like Marilyn Monroe, Debbie Reynolds, George Hamilton, Dinah Shore, Peter Lawford, and many others. It was also a favorite of the Rat Pack; Sammy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra. And it was here that Elvis and Priscilla spent their honeymoon. This community still has its celebrities like Ruta Lee, Carney Wilson, and Trini Lopez as well as many professionals from Los Angeles and Northern California. Many residents are young gay and straight couples with children.
Vista Las Palmas has around 375 homes and most of them were developed by George and Robert Alexander. The neighborhood has been in the process of revitalization since the late 1990’s. Some homes have been restored to their original states while others have been modernized to keep up with the times.
Today the community is a symbol of mid-century modern design. Amenities for these homes may include stone floors, vaulted ceilings, stainless steel appliances, and spacious closets in the master suites. The back yards are wonderful for entertaining with beautifully landscaped scenery. The public school system has assigned facilities like Katherine Finchy Elementary, Raymond Cree Middle, and Palm Springs High School.
Palm Spring has much to offer like the main shopping district along Palm Canyon Drive with its posh boutiques, design shops, and exquisite restaurants. And there are many outdoor recreational activities in Coachella Valley which offers horseback riding, hiking, and biking. The valley also has more golf courses than any other California region. The 100th course was opened in 2001.
